It is a sunny morning in the computer architecture research community. In the last few years, our community has multiplied in size, our conferences consistently reach record-high attendance, and the number of active research areas is mind-boggling. Members of our community are recognized with the Turing Award and are leading NSF CISE.
While times may be exhilarating, it is important that all of us contribute to raising our community’s profile. We need to be active in impacting industry, organizing technical events, helping with awards, mentoring young people, and advocating for our community.
A prime example of this activism is the IEEE TCCA Computer Architecture Blog that our colleagues Guru Venkataramani from George Washington University and John Kim from KAIST start today. Many thanks to Guru and John for their efforts.
The role of this blog is to enable members of the computer architecture community to discuss important issues that are of interest to many of us. Our goal is to bring the community closer together. The blog is accessible from the IEEE TCCA website, and posts will be distributed either directly with a mailing list, or in summary form with the digest emails that TCCA regularly sends to the community.
We are joining forces with our sister ACM SIGARCH organization, which already has a blog, to increase communication among our common members. Since we are a single computer architecture community, on request, we enable cross-posting in both TCCA and SIGARCH blogs, so the message reaches a wider audience.
I encourage everyone to post in the blog. Many events and opportunities that are worth discussing are taking place right now, such as an excellent HPCA-PPoPP-CGO program and the NSF PPoSS solicitation. We all hope to hear from you!
